by James Abro

An infant is born backstage at a rock concert in 1969. After his parents are busted on the spot for hashish possession, a stranger, a half-breed named Bruce Bonwil, takes him in. In order to post bail for the parents, and reunite them with their Baby, Bruce must go to an inner city still smoldering from race riots. The backdrop for this '60s novel' is not Vietnam or hippie tribes; it's a more realistic landscape that takes in the racism, police violence and Draconian drug laws that characterized the period and saw the U.S. pass S. Africa in per-capita incarcerations -- over 2 million in 2006. In the end, though, BABY! is a novel about hope -- that the deeply rooted free-spirited and egalitarian values of the time will be reborn again in our lifetime in America.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: James Abro began writing professionally with the New York Newspaper Guild at a time when the Guild was financing alternative 'strike-newspapers' to thwart the hostile takeover of local newspapers by global megalomaniacs like Rupert Murdock. When the Guild lost the battle, and the war, Mr. Abro decided that the best way for him to write about what was really going on in America was to do so through fiction. BABY! is the first novel in his compelling and evocative series about life in America from the end of the 60s to the present.
