I try to write heartfelt stories based on bitter realities. I belong to a country where people are afraid of life. Their sleep has lost dreams. I want to reawake their oppressed dreams; I want to share their woes; I want to share the suffering of their shrieking souls. Humanity is dying and I am trying to put a few drops of water on its dry tongue so that it should face death bravely. My writing is the echo of their flagging hopes and raging desires."

I was immediately taken by the story and, subsequent to its publication in Gowanus, submitted "The Donkey-Man" as an entry to the Million Writers competition run by Story South magazine. It was selected as among the top fifty stories for that year, from among more than 600 entries (http://www.storysouth.com/millionwritersnotable.html). Since then Mr. Khan and I have maintained contact. He continues to Contribute to Gowanus, and I expect and look forward to publishing more of his work. His talent as a storyteller is considerable, and his compassion for the human condition is exceptional in a profession where slickness all too often is rewarded over insight and sound feeling.” The Donkey-Man" will feature prominently in the second print anthology of Gowanus, scheduled for publication in 2006. The first anthology, The Best of Gowanus: New Writing from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, was well received and has been purchased by numerous prominent academic and public libraries, including Harvard, the University of California, the New York Public Library, etc. His work will feature prominently in the second print anthology of Gowanus. With best regards,Thomas J.
